Ayla Tipple and her daughter, Sarah, have been to Family Camp three times, first with Ayla’s mom, Evelyn, and the last two summers with Ayla’s sister, Tara, photographed in the pond with her niece. “I think we’re going to make it a mommy/auntie thing every summer,” Ayla says.
“There’s not many kids out our way with CP,” Ayla says, so camp is an opportunity for Sarah to play with other children with cerebral palsy. It’s also a time when Ayla can find out how others have fared with physiotherapy or hip surgery, which Sarah will have in 2012.
“The thing I like most about it is it’s a weekend where no one’s staring at her, or asking what her wheelchair is for. It’s just a weekend where she’s a normal little girl like her friends.”
