“Swimming is really relaxing, and it helps me with my muscles. You feel like you can be free in the pool,” says Rebecca Brown, pictured with Grace Leach, left, and Emily Nash. For three years in a row, going to the pool has been Rebecca’s chosen “skill” – an activity she gets to do every other day. “Camp is basically the only time when I get to swim,” says the teen, who has cerebral palsy and also experiences chronic pain. “Every year the counsellors change, but this year I had Emily helping me in the pool every time I went in, and Grace was the lifeguard so she was helping me, too . . . . That day in the pool was one of my favourite moments of the summer.”
